Dust bites. Bite back!

If gripping a duster hurts your hand, try putting socks on your hands instead and just wiping your sock-covered hands over the dusty areas. Not only does this find a use for those annoying odd socks who mysteriously lose their partners in the wash, but it is also a good method for polishing without scratching the surface you want to shine.

The “Roomba robotic vacuum cleaner” is popular with chronic pain sufferers all over the world. It does the vacuum-cleaning without needing to be pushed around! Just press a button and it does the work for you. Of course this isn’t a perfect solution and it might not reach into every corner, but these vacuum cleaners are becoming increasingly popular nonetheless.

These days there are some pretty good biological safe cleaning products. The brands differ from one country to the next, but especially for those who are sensitive to strong smells and chemicals, please consider switching to a safer brand. There are also some cleaning cloths you can wear as you would a glove. All they need is plain water.

Bathroom Tips

For cleaning bathrooms, buy one cleaning product for every bathroom you have, then store them in the bathroom. This makes cleaning the bathroom much less of a hassle. You can just do it while you run a bath and don’t need to carry around all of your cleaning products. You will use them all in the long run anyway so you may as well buy more than one bottle at once. If you don't live alone, having the cleaning products there where they are needed might inspire someone else to use them as well.

Instead of scrubbing the toilet bowl, pop a denture tablet in there and leave it over night. Denture tablets are also good for unblocking clogged drains. Keep them near the sink and every so often crumble up a bit of a denture tablet and sprinkle it around the plug hole. Then whenever you use water some of the denture tablet will dissolve and clean the pipes for you.

Washing

Consider investing in a laundry basket on wheels, so that you don’t have to do so much bending and lifting.

If you find it difficult to open or use washing powder and fabric conditioner, try a washing ball, such as the “Wash it” ball. Most brands have come up with their own variation on this product. You just pop it in with the washing instead of filling up the drawers of the washing machine with washing powder and fabric conditioner. Most of these products last for 50 or more washes, so although they may seem expensive, in the long run the difference in price is negligible.

If you tumble dry towels and sheets even if only for a few minutes, less ironing is required. When putting away un-ironed clothes in your drawers, put the newly washed items at the bottom of the pile, then by the time they reach the top all of the wrinkles will have been pressed out!

Getting clothes out of the washing machine can be tough for people who suffer from back pain or who are confined to a wheelchair and cannot stretch far enough to reach the clothes at the back. For this task, try using a pair of barbecue tongs to reach in and pull out your clothes.
